Below is a list and description of every undergraduate course I have taken and mastered in my time at Clemson.
Spanish Language Oriented Instruction
SPAN 2020: Intermediate Spanish
Practiced Spanish speaking, writing, reading, and listening. Developed further skills in grammar and vocabulary. Learned basic Spanish culture and ideas. Lots of activities were done collaboritively in groups.
SPAN 3050: Intermediate Spanish Conversation & Composition
Practiced Spanish speaking and listening. Mainly focused on furthering skills in proficiency, grammar, and vocabulary. This course really helped improve my Spanish speaking and understanding. Conducted entirely in Spanish.
LANG 3000: Introduction to Linguistics
Introductory course into the field of linguistics. Learned about the basic study of language and its structure, including the concepts of morphology, syntax, phonetics, and semantics. Discussed speech and language issues. Conducted in English.
SPAN 3140: Hispanic Linguistics
Learned more about linguistics, specifically in the Spanish language. Gained a larger understanding of Spanish morphology, syntax, phonetics, and semantics, and the differences compared to English. We also learned about the differences between different Spanish dialects. Conducted entirely in Spanish.
SPAN 4110: Advanced Spanish Grammar & Composition (Valencia, Spain)
This course heavily emphasized Spanish vocabulary acquisition and grammar proficiency. The majority of the class was spent speaking out loud as a group with our professor. We learned a lot of specific Spanish 'lingo' and differences between Spanish in Spain and South America. This class really benefitted me in terms of my language proficiency. Conducted entirely in Spanish by native Spanish professor.
Spanish Culture & Literature Courses
SPAN 3040: Introduction to Hispanic Literary Forms

Introduced us to basic Spanish literature such as poetry, plays, and short stories. Learned about the basic elements of these types of literature as well as related them to Spanish culture. There was lots of group work, presentations, and class discussion. Conducted entirely in Spanish.
SPAN 4010: New Spanish Fiction
​
Studied selected Spanish short stories and some movies by emerging authors and directors in Spain with emphasis on modern trends. We gave a lot of presentations and worked on our Spanish presenting skills as well as speaking in discussion. Conducted entirely in Spanish.
SPAN 4060: Hispanic Narrative Fiction
​
Studied Spanish dramas, both written and filmed, and had a lot of class discussions. Required to write many essays about various topics that tested our knowledge and understanding of the works. Conducted entirely in Spanish.
SPAN 4350: Contemporary Hispanic Culture
​
Learned a lot about Spanish culture in different areas of Spain.​ We read many articles and stories about certain time periods throughout Spanish history. Conducted entirely in Spanish.
HIST 3400: Latin America- From Conquest to Independence
​
​Learned all about the Reconquista and the conquest of Latin America by Spain. Learned about the Aztecs, Incas, Mayans and all of their culture. Wrote many essays. I truly learned a lot in this class and it helped me enjoy history.
SPAN 4030: Spanish American Women Writers
​
​Read short stories and watched movies pertaining to women and women's rights throughout Spanish history. Gave many presentations as well as completing written assignments about the topics. There were lots of in depth class discussions. Conducted entirely in Spanish.
SPAN 4070: Hispanic Film
​
​Watched Spanish films mainly from the time period post Spanish civil war of the Franco regime. Learned a lot about the harsh censorship and rules of the time. Used this cultural and historical background to understand cinematic techniques and topics used by directors at this time. Completed analytical essays and portfolios about the topics. Conducted entirely in Spanish.
SPAN 3150: Spanish for Health Professionals​
(Valencia, Spain)

Learned about Spanish health vocabulary, about healthcare in Europe and Spain in particular, had on site visits to a health clinic, dental clinic, nursing home, and student enrichment center. Had to give final presentation on health related topic. This was one of my favorite classes I have taken as it was the perfect combination of both of my passions: Spanish and science, and it related to my future career goals.

COMM 1500: Introduction to Human Communication

Learned about the principles of public speaking and had to give many speeches such as persuasive, argumentative, informative, and group speech.

MUSC 3140: World Music
Learned about music from all different parts of the world including Africa, India, Japan, Latin America, and more. Learned about the instruments they use and the culture of each country.​
ENGL 3040: Business Writing
​Learned about the principles of business writing. Had to complete a long and detailed report about proposing a new fitness center in Clemson.
PHIL 3260: Science & Values
​Discussed philosophy in science. Talked about a lot of ethical situations in science such as euthanasia and other topics. Lots of written assignments.
Biological Sciences Minor Required Courses
BIOL 1100: Principles of Biology 1
(honors, with lab)
​Learned the basic principles of biology and its applications. Topics included detailed explanations of life on Earth, cells, and organisms. The honors portion involved a discussion of the Covid-19 pandemic. This lab involved using microscopes and applying the knowledge we learned in lecture.
BIOL 1110: Principles of Biology 2
(with lab)
​Continuation of education in biology. We learned a lot more about plants and animals and their roles in ecosystems. This lab involved identification of many different types of plants as well as dissection of a worm and a pig.
Microbiology (Biomedicine) Required Courses
CH 1010: General Chemistry 1 (with lab)
​Learned the basic principles of general chemistry and its applications. We had to learn many different types of reactions and equations and be able to apply them. The lab involved lots of different chemical reactions and learning the different types of lab equipment. We had to do many lab reports.
MATH 1060: Calculus of One Variable 1

Learned the basic principles of calculus and its applications. Included many topics like geometry, derivatives, integrals, different types of functions, and more. We had many assessments.
CH 1020: General Chemistry II
​Learned more about general chemistry and its principles. Learned more advanced types of reactions and formulas. The lab involved more advanced lab techniques and experiments.
MATH 1080: Calculus of One Variable II

Learned more about calculus and its principles. Had to apply the concepts we learned in the previous semester more.

Did many projects throughout the semester in microbiology. Did one big project about aquaria and eutrophication.
MICR 4150: Microbial Genetics
​Learned about the genetics of microbes. Learned about horizontal gene transfer and transcription and translation.

Learned the basic principles of viruses in detail.
MICR 4510: Advanced Microbiology Lab II

Did many projects throughout the semester in microbiology. Completed different lab techniques including gel electrophoresis, PCR, western blotting, and more.
MICR 4110: Pathogenic Eukaryotes
Learned about many diseases caused by fungi, worms, and eukaryotic bacteria.​ Learned the life cycles, immune response, infection mechanisms, and more. Had to give a final presentation on a pathogen of my choice, Pneumocystis jirovecii.
MICR 4140: Basic Immunology
​Learned the principles of immunology in detail. This course was similar to my pathogenic eukaryotes course.
BIOL 4670: Principles of Hematology

Learned the basic principles of hematology and associated conditions and wrote a 30 page thesis paper on periodontitis and its treatments and current research on the topic.
BIOL 4930: Senior Seminar- Cutting Edge Exploration of the Art of Science & Medicine in the Operating Room
​Discussing many ethical dilemmas in science. Used anatomage table and read the book Stiff. Weekly students would present on a chapter of the book and lead the class in a discussion about the ethical issues raised. We also completed a suture lab. This was by far my favorite class of college.
CH 4990: Creative Inquiry in Chemistry IV
Worked with Dr. Dev Arya and his associated graduate students on his project involving discovery of new drug targets in the genome of pathogenic bacteria. Involved the search for new sites of intervention in the bacterial genome and approaches of targeting nucleic acid and enzyme targets selective to bacteria. I attended all graduate student report meetings. I was required to understand and be able to discuss the idea of controlling DNA topoisomerase functions in terms of developing new antibacterial agents to combat anti-bacterial resistance.

Learned the principles of cell biology and its applications. Detailed explanations of intracellular and extracellular molecules and their functions. This required detailed knowledge of chemical and metabolic pathways.
BIOL 3150: Functional Human Anatomy
(with lab)
​Learned all about the human body and all of its parts and functions. This included many different systems of the body and all of their processes. The lab involved studying different models of the body and having to identify their parts. It also involved being able to recognize various histologies on the microscope.
BIOL 4200: Neurobiology
​Learned the basic principles of neuroscience and all about neurotransmitters in the body and brain. Participated in a research symposium at the end on the effects of neurotransmitters on insomnia.
